How to Measure Your Wall

The right measurements,
a perfect result.

Measuring correctly is the most important step of your wallpaper order.

What to watch for on any wall

Do sockets or an air-conditioning unit sit in front of the design? Note their positions as you measure.

The small strip above a door must always be taken into account, otherwise the mural will look cut short. If there is a narrow 5–10 cm (2–4 in) strip on the wall side of the door, include that in your measurements too.

As shown in the “Continues around the corner” illustration below, a mural that ends exactly on a corner will start to lift over time from ordinary wear. It is always better to carry it around the corner.

A plain wall

Width and height are enough. Measure the height from the baseboard up to the cornice, if there is one.

A wall with a door or window

Every detail is measured separately: above the door, beside the door, the window itself, above the window and below it. Don't forget the small strip above the door and the narrow 5–10 cm (2–4 in) section on the wall side of the door.

A recessed wall

Every detail is measured separately: columns, pillars, beams, recesses and projections. Note the inner face, the beam face and the depth separately.

Continues around the corner

A mural should never end exactly on a corner. Tell us how far it needs to carry on to each side of the corner.

Production margin

Give us the net measurements; you don't need to add a margin. We add an overflow margin on every side in production, and you are not charged for it.
